About
The University of Mindanao Broadcasting Network (UMBN) is a Philippine commercial radio broadcasting network majority-owned and controlled by the Torres family, serving as the media arm of the University of Mindanao. Its origins trace back to DXMC, the first radio station in Davao City and the entire Mindanao region, founded in 1949 by Atty. Guillermo E. Torres. The network was formally established in 1957 under Republic Act 1832, which granted the franchise to construct, establish, maintain, and operate radio broadcasting stations in the Philippines. UMBN and its subsidiary Mt. Apo Broadcasting System run AM and FM stations across Mindanao, while another subsidiary Ditan Communications operates the Visayas FM stations. The network operates three radio network brands: UMBN News & Public Affairs, Wild FM, and Retro. Its broadcast franchise was most recently extended for another 25 years under an act amending Republic Act 8170.
